The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission announced Jan. 22 Oklahoma's December unemployment dropped from the November figures.
Oklahoma’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 6.6 percent in December 2009, down by 0.5 percent over the month. Oklahoma’s unemployment rate is down from a six-month high of 7.3 percent in October 2009. The current 6.6 percent rate matches the July 2009 rate. The unemployment rate was 2 percent more than December 2008's rate.
The U.S. unemployment rate remained at 10 percent in December.
Sectors of Oklahoma economy that gained jobs in the month from November 2009 to December 2009:
- construction
- manufacturing
- financial activities
- professional and business services
- educational and health services
- leisure and hospitality
- other services
The three sectors that lost jobs over the month were:
- mining and logging
- trade, transportation and utility
- government
