Kim Haywood, 32

10.13.2009

Practically every one of Oklahoma City’s young professionals has a page on LinkedIn, but Kim Haywood is among the few with her own Internet Movie Database page, too. She was one of the producers of the locally shot 2007 rock opera, “Rainbow Around the Sun,” which had its world premiere at the prestigious South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, and currently is angling to make the leap to the Broadway or off-Broadway stage.

Films course through Haywood’s blood, which makes the University of Oklahoma graduate the ideal person to spearhead the annual deadCENTER Film Festival, whose ninth event was this summer. She joined in 2006 as the first employee for a heretofore completely volunteer-run organization. Since then, attendance has grown by 140%.

“My greatest business achievement is taking a small nonprofit film festival, assembling a group of the brightest local industry experts and transforming the deadCENTER Film Festival into a successful, year-round and nationally recognized event,” she says.

Her volunteer efforts include stints with Oklahoma City Festival of the Arts, Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park and the Paseo Arts Festival, all of it she says is “a continuation of my goal in business, which is to promote Oklahoma and its talent.”
