The Delta Dental of Oklahoma Charitable Foundation announced the 2010 recipients of the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry Scholarship Fund Oct. 7. The 10 recipients of $5,000 each are:

2. Phoebe Brown - Oklahoma City
3. Tanner Cook - Lawton, Okla.
4. Dirk Eckroat - Edmond
5. Trey Edwards - Ada, Okla.
6. Christopher Faulconer - Lake Kiowa, TX   
7. Dalia Georgy - Tulsa
8. Chelsea Holland - Oklahoma City   
9. Dominika Kovacikova - Ruzomberok, Slovakia
10. Catherine Peck - Oklahoma City   

The Foundation's $50,000 annual scholarship fund was established in 2001 to encourage enrollment in the OU College of Dentistry. Oklahoma currently has an estimated 41 dentists per 100,000 people, below the national average of 58 per 100,000. 

"Approximately 20 percent of the more than 1,400 practicing dentists in Oklahoma are 62 years of age or older, and Oklahoma faces a serious shortage of dentists in the near future," said Stephen K. Young, dean of the OU College of Dentistry.  "This scholarship fund, combined with the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation's longstanding financial commitment to the OU College of Dentistry, help ensure that we continue carrying out our mission of producing high-quality dental practitioners to serve the people of Oklahoma."
