AAA projects that 11.5 percent more Oklahomans will travel over the 2010 Thanksgiving holiday (Wed., Nov. 24 to Sun., Nov. 28) than in 2009. Expectations are for 532,500 Oklahomans to drive, a 12.1-percent increase over a year ago, and for 48,000 to board airplanes, a 3.5 percent increase from last year.
"While Americans remain cautious with household budgets and discretionary spending amidst high levels of unemployment in some regions of the country, many are in a better financial position this Thanksgiving than a year ago," said Chuck Mai, spokesman for AAA Oklahoma.
The forecasted 11.4-percent increase in Thanksgiving holiday travel nationwide signifies a significant upturn in travel volume after 2009's negligible growth (0.2 percent) and 2008's historic 25.2-percent decline.
