OCURA set to decide developer for MidTown site

Special meeting to be held June 20

Oklahoma City Urban Renewal Authority commissioners are set to decide a developer for a block in MidTown at a special meeting to be held 3 p.m. June 20.

At a June 9 meeting, commissioners narrowed the prospective redevelopment projects from four to two parties for the vacant block bordered by NW 12, NW 13, and Dewey and Walker avenues.

The two redevelopment projects that emerged were led by Gary Brooks and Chuck Wiggin. Commissioners passed on projects led by Richard Tanenbaum and Malva Ellard. The block is the former site of Mercy Hospital.

Wiggin won a previous redevelopment contract for the site to build condos. When financing proved impossible, he scrapped those plans, and a new request for proposal was issued by OCURA. The new plans call for a mix of apartments and retail.

Five parties answered the RFP in March. At the June 9 meeting, commissioners raised questions about the amount of retail in each development, parking and parking garage location concerns.

The meeting will be held at the OCURA offices at 204 N Robinson Ave., Ste. 2400.
