6 Oklahomans make Forbes' wealthy list

Two crack the top 40; Hobby Lobby and Chesapeake heads also make the cut.

Bill Gates is the richest person in the United States with a net worth of $59 billion, according to Forbes magazine. But six from Oklahoma also made the list of the magazine’s 400 richest people in the country as of September 2011.

Topping the list of Oklahomans is George Kaiser, chairman of BOK Financial in Tulsa, who came in at No. 31, with a net worth of $10 billion. Kaiser was followed a few notches down on the list by Harold Hamm, founder of Continental Resources, at No. 36, with a net worth of $7.5 billion. Hamm is in the process of moving the company from Enid to Oklahoma City, and last year bought an office tower from Devon Energy Corp. as the company’s new headquarters.

David Green, the man behind Hobby Lobby, made the list at No. 81, with a net worth of $4 billion. The next two on the list are both from Tulsa. Lynn Schusterman came in at No. 117, with a net worth of $3 billion. The magazine reported she is the widow of Samson Resources founder Charles Schusterman and splits her time between Tulsa, New York and Jerusalem. Tulsan Joseph Craft, CEO of Alliance Resource Partners, ranked No. 331, with a net worth of $1.3 billion.

Chesapeake Energy CEO Aubrey McClendon came in at No. 359, with a net worth of $1.2 billion.

Philip Anschutz of Colorado was No. 39, with a net worth of $7 billion. In October, Anschutz plans to buy all of the stock in the Oklahoma Publishing Company, including The Oklahoman newspaper and various assets owned by the company for an undisclosed price.
